Summit
One Gallery:
www.summitonegallery.com |
Views Magazine
says that Summit One Gallery has one
of the best and most diverse collections of artwork
in the southern Carolinas… and is rapidly building
a reputation as a destination gallery in the Southern
Appalachians. And a visit with owner Mary
Adair Leslie is always a pleasure. |

Twigs & Leaves:
www.twigsandleaves.com |
In
1998 Kaaren Stoner and David Erickson opened their
very attractive gallery in downtown Waynesville, North Carolina
to represent not only Kaaren’s beautiful work, but that
of other regionally and nationally known artists as well. From
the blending of their separate sensibilities, her art and his
business, has grown an inviting array of offerings of which I
am pleased to be a part. |

The
Compleat Naturalist:
www.compleatnaturalist.com |
Dr.
Hal and Laura Mahan are both excellent naturalists
and teachers with extensive backgrounds in environmental education.
A part of their love of the natural world is seen in the wonderful
nature store and gallery they opened in 1992 in Asheville, North
Carolina’s Historic Biltmore Village. The gallery represents
some of the finest nature photographers in our region. |

English
Mountain Llama Treks :
www.hikinginthesmokies.com |
Dr.
Laura Higgins and Biologist Lucy Lowe love to
hike and they’ve taken that love in a unique direction,
offering wonderful guided trips with a
team of gentle and well-trained llamas to do the
heavy work. They offer a variety of great hiking
experiences to beautiful places. |

First
Tee Mountain Golf:
www.firstteemountaingolf.com |
I don’t
play golf, but Ron Clark does and his love for
the game is infectious. He has crafted a business
of creating superb golfing packages at some
of the most beautiful and challenging courses
in Western North Carolina. He can design
one for you that you’ll remember for a lifetime. |

Knapko
Family Vacation Rentals:
www.creeknwoods.com |
If
there is such a thing as too much hospitality, then
Tom and Sue Knapko are guilty. A cozy atmosphere
with excellent accommodations, Starbucks
Coffee, biscotti, and Sue’s homemade
cookies will make you want to come back
again. The name of their website precisely
describes where they are. |

John
C. Campbell Folk School:
www.folkschool.org |
Founded
in 1925, John C Campbell Folk School is now
one of the premier arts and crafts schools in the
South, if not the country. It offers over 750 classes
each year from traditional to contemporary,
in one of the most beautiful settings
you can imagine. |
|
Arrowmont School
of Arts & Crafts:
www.arrowmont.org |
In 1912 Pi Beta Phi Settlement
School began offering
education to a once remote community where no formal schooling
had been available. In 1926 Arrowcraft Shop began selling the
beautiful crafts of the Appalachian people. From that vision
Arrowmont has grown into a nationally recognized school of arts
and crafts. |

Fuji Photo Film U.S.A. Inc.:
www.fujifilm.com |
The
fact that more professional nature photographers
use Fuji than any other film should be
all that needs to be said, but there’s really much, much
more. There’s
the commitment to conservation and
the philosophy of support for the professional community.
Fuji is a sponsor of both EarthSong Photography
and America the Beautiful Photography Workshops – and
I’m
very glad. |

Great Smoky Mountains Association:
www.smokiesstore.org |
Great Smoky Mountains National Park is very fortunate to have two excellent partner organizations that do great jobs in assisting the Park in fulfilling its mission. GSMA is the older of the two, founded in 1953; and it serves the Park through the operation of sales outlets and staffing labor for the visitor centers, the receipt of donations, and the coordination of volunteer efforts for many park projects. Belonging to “The Association” is one membership I value very highly. |
|
Adger House Bed & Breakfast:
www.adgerhouse.com |
In 1906 Susan Adger built a beautiful home on 3.5 acres within a relaxing stroll of downtown Waynesville. In time it came to serve as a lodging facility for visitors to the Smokies. Bruce and Leslie Merrell became the innkeepers of Adger House Bed and Breakfast in 2001 with a goal of perpetuating the charm and continuing the hospitality for which Adger House is famous. In my mind, they have done an outstanding job. Visit with them and you’ll agree. |

Byron Crowley:
www.SubduedLight.com |
Byron Crowley is more than a fellow photographer; he’s a friend whose sensitive and gentle nature always serve to remind me of the goodness of people. And as you will see from his website, Subdued Light, he’s a darn good photographer as well. |
